$500 REWARD FOR ARREST OF JESSE JAMES$500 reward notice posted by the St Louis Midland Railroad for the arrest and conviction of Jesse James. Jesse Woodson James (1847-1882), American outlaw and bank and train robber who, with his brother Frank, was a member of the James-Younger gang. In my professional opinion this is an example produced in the late 1930s or early 1940s. The St Louis Midland RR was a made-up railroad for the 1939 movie Jesse James, directed by Henry King and starring Tyrone Power, Henry Fonda, and Randolph Scott. Written by Nunnally Johnson, the film is loosely based on the life of Jesse James, the outlaw from whom the film derives its name. Regardless, a fantastic 80 year old poster, brittle and darkly aged, but with great patina.

$800 REWARD FOR OUTLAW DICK FELLOWSOriginal 1876 $800 reward poster for stagecoach and bank robber Dick Fellows. The arrest warrant and reward came out of Bakersfield, CA in Kern County. Dick Fellows (born George Lyttle in Kentucky in 1846). In 1867, Lyttle moved to California. But nothing legitimate worked out for him. Soon, George Lyttle changed his name to Dick Fellows and began robbing stagecoaches. It soon however cost him his freedom as he was identified as the robber and was sentenced to a life term in Folsom prison. But while in prison, Fellows became a model prisoner, and spent many hours teaching fellow inmates. In 1908, Fellows was ultimately pardoned at the age of 62.
