1900S ORIGINAL ANTEBELLUM BRONZE STATUE STREET LIGHTS
Original antebellum architecture inspired bronze male and female statue streetlights. They each have lived their entire lives on the grounds of an old beautiful estate in Hancock Park from the roaring 1900s. Jon was contacted by the grandchildren of the original owners of the property, as they were putting the property on the market to sell. They told him stories of growing up around these on the property and how they were their grandparent's favorite pieces. They were not working and dirty but in all the years Jon had never seen anything quite like these. They are very heavy, weighing approx. 400 lbs. each and over 10 feet tall. This matching art deco numbered set, made of bronze, fantastic, clawed feet with nails and incredible patina. It was gently cleaned and detailed to conserve the patina and the gorgeous look that only time came give something like this. Jon carefully took the pole apart which was hard because of 90 years of corrosion on the huge bolts and then repaired all of the wiring. The other plug looks to have been replaced in the 1950's. Hancock Park is a historic and affluent residential neighborhood in the central region of the City of Los Angeles, California, developed in 1920. Today, Hancock Park consists of about 1,200 homes within the boundaries of Melrose Avenue, Wilshire Boulevard and both sides of Highland and Rossmore avenues.

An original letter written and signed by General William Tecumseh Sherman (1820-1891), accompanied by a portrait. The letter is written on Headquarters Army of the United States stationery and is dated April 2, 1870. It reads, in part: "It is pleasant to realize that some people think if the old Army with some degree of affection and respect, though, it may avail little with those who hold our future in their hand. With them the truth is secondary--the temporary effort is all they care for. The Cry of Economy must be sustained whether there be real Economy or not. The good of the Army, or permanent good of the Country are as nothing on comparison with some specious promise to be used in some local election. I regret always to be drawn into Controversy, but it is sometimes forced on me, and I cannot without Cowardice avoid it. I suppose I do not manifest that deep sense of inferiority in the persons of members of Congress that claim as the Law makers - but my notion was & is that whilst the aggregate we are commanded to respect them. As individuals they are no better or worse than their individual arts demonstrate." The prominent General Sherman served as a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War, receiving recognition for his command of military strategy as well as criticism for the harshness of the scorched earth policies he implemented in conducting total war against the Confederate States. British military theorist and historian B. H. Liddell Hart declared that Sherman was "the first modern general."
